When should you worry about fatigue?
Q. I have been quite fatigued over the past two weeks. How long should I wait before seeing a doctor?
A. We all go through periods of low energy. Even a week of feeling more tired than usual is not uncommon.
Sometimes we feel tired and this is due to work and many other issues. But when fatigue lasts for one week or more it can be due to underlying illness or infection and especially if it’s accompanied with symptoms, such as a low-grade fever, shortness of breath, or loss of appetite.
Other reasons of fatigue could be symptoms of sleep disorder could be waking up and feel exhausted even you sleep well or even you feel tired to do usual activities or you have low energy level.
During examination the doctor will try to diagnose and determine the reasons behind fatigue and this could be medications side effects or even he/she will ask for blood tests to determine if there is nutritional anaemia, liver infection or inactive thyroid gland.
Sometimes. Fatigue could be due to lack of sleep or stressful work so upon relax and good night sleep patient will be better.
