Weight fluctuations:
Why there are big fluctuations from day to day? Poorer eating habits, holiday parties, stress, lack of sleep and being out of routine are just some of the culprits.
Here are some other contributors to a fluctuating scale:
Hydration/Sodium Intake: It is a major effect of weight fluctuations. When you have decreased water intake, you will notice weight loss on the scale up to 3-5 pounds. When you return to hydrated status, your weight will return to normal. However increased sodium intake will result in fluid retention and thus weight gain. Carbohydrate Intake: Carbohydrates are stored with water as glycogen. An increased carbs intake over the normal from sugary food like sodas and candies will result in weight gain. Thus a low carbs plan will result in weight loss during first weeks as the water accompanied with carbs is lost. Hormones: Weight gain and bloating resulted from hormonal fluctuations and stress. Constipation: Resulted from increased fibre without increased intake without enough water. Same will happen if consumption of convenience food is high instead of fruits and vegetables in other word low fibre intake. Weight-Lifting: Weight lifting increase in weight fluctuations and this is normal because of fluid retention in muscles. Don’t panic it is normal.
Medications/Medical Conditions: Some medications has fluid retention as side effect and may lead to weight gain. While weight loss happen as we get older and thirst sensation become less sensitive.
