Introduction:

Vitamin E is a powerful vitamin that work as antioxidant, fight germs and prevent blood clotting. In addition it is a fat soluble vitamin.


What people get deficiency?

Many people are deficient at vitamin E and cannot get enough from the food sources due to low absorption and this is can be due to genetics factor or fat malabsorption diseases like Cohn’s disease and cystic fibrosis. You need to consult your doctor to treat the underlying disease.


Low level of vitamin E:

In case of low level of vitamin E you will get more sickness and you will lose control or coordination of some body movement. In addition to nerve damage that can cause pain and weakness in your hands and feet.


The recommended intake of vitamin E are the following:

0-6 month: 4 mg

7-12 month: 5mg

1-3 years: 6-8 mg

4-8 years: 7 mg

9-13 years: 11 mg

14-up: 15 mg

Breastfeeding mother: 19 mg

Best vitamin E sources:

Vitamin E from supplements:

You can get enough vitamin E from food sources and there is no need to take supplements so consult with your doctor first.


Overdose from supplements:

High dose of vitamin E is linked to bleeding, stroke and heart disease.

It is better to not exceed your intake more than 1100 IU of synthetic form and 1500 IU from natural form.


Interaction with drugs:

Vitamin E supplements interact with anti-coagulant and cholesterol lowering medications in addition to other vitamins and minerals like vitamin C and selenium.


Benefits of high dose of vitamin E supplements:

According to some studies, high doses of vitamin E are linked to slow age-macular degeneration but don’t seem to protect against heart disease.


Doctor may prescribe vitamin E supplement for pre-mature babies.
