Introduction:
Poor eyesight could be a result of poor nutrition. Malnutrition, overeating, excessive intake of junk food and sugar, low intake of vegetables and nutritious food all of these factors are linked to a poor vision.
Healthy lifestyle along with exercise are both recommended for improved overall health and eye health too.
1. Leafy green veggies: Green leafy vegetables like collards, spinach and kale are rich in lutein and zeaxanthin which
help in improving vision. Vitamin C rich leafy greens are great for your eye health.
2. Citrus fruits: Due to their vitamin C content orange, lemons and citrus fruits are good for eye health as they act as antioxidants and help in preventing age-related eye damage.
3. Nuts: Peanuts, Brazil nuts and walnuts are example of nuts which improve eye health due to their content of both omega-3 and vitamin E.
4. Fish: Salmon, trout, tuna and herring are all fish that are good for your eyesight due to their content of omega-3 which offers a protection to eyes from macular degeneration and dry eye syndrome. Moreover, it helps in drainage of intraocular fluid from eyes, thus reducing risk of glaucoma or high eye pressure.
5. Carrots: Carrots are rich in Vitamin A and carotene. Both of these are important for a healthy vision. Vitamin A specifically is a component of rhodospin, a protein which helps the retina to absorb light.
6. Seeds: Some seeds like hemp seeds, sunflower seeds and chia seed can help in improving vision due to fatty acids the omega-3 which improve dry eye condition. In addition, they are rich in vitamin E a powerful antioxidant.
