32. Melatonin
Melatonin is the hormone responsible for sleeping and exposure to artificial light may affect melatonin secretion. Melatonin supplements are frequently used as a sleep aid for insomnia, work shift sleep disorder and jet lag. Side effects can include daytime drowsiness, mood changes and increased cholesterol.
33. Milk Thistle
It contains silymarin, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that can benefit the liver and heart. Although generally considered safe, milk thistle may cause upset stomach, diarrhoea and rashes. If people have ragweed allergies, they should avoid milk thistle.
34. Niacin
Niacin is a common name for vitamin B3 and is found in meat, poultry, fish, and fortified grains. Its most important role is assisting with the body’s energy production. It can help release calcium stored in our bodies, and it’s important to the health of our hair, skin, and nails. Large doses can damage liver.
35. Potassium
Potassium is important for bone, heart health and electrolyte balance. High level like low level can be very dangerous. Adequate potassium can be obtained from a diet rich in vegetables and fruits such as bananas and avocados.
36. Probiotics
Probiotics are healthy bacteria that promote digestion and improving immunity and then gut balance. In addition to being available as a supplement, lactobacillus acidophilus is a probiotic that is found in dairy products such as yogurt and cottage cheese that contain active cultures. Probiotics are commonly used to fight causes of diarrhoea and control inflammatory bowel disease flair ups.
37. Red Rice Yeast
It has been sold to lower cholesterol. Side effects can include stomach-ache, heartburn, nausea, and diarrhoea.
38. SAM-e
SAM-e (which stands for S-adenosylmethionine) is an amino acid made in the liver. SAM-e is used in the treatment of depression, arthritis pain, and adult ADHD. It’s also believed to protect against liver damage. Check with your doctor before use.
39. Saw Palmetto
It has been used to treat bladder disorders, hair loss, hormone imbalances, and treatment of enlarged prostate glands. But studies have not shown any effects in preventing enlarged prostate. Possible side effects include stomach pain, nausea, bowel changes, dizziness and headache.
40. Selenium
A mineral and powerful antioxidant found in seafood, poultry, eggs, and whole grains, selenium has been associated with reduced incidence of several types of cancers, boost immunity, lowers risks of cardiovascular disease and improve men fertility. No need for supplements as high doses can be toxic.
41. Soy Isoflavones
They are antioxidant found in soy and they are attached to estrogen receptors. They can reduce cholesterol, protecting you against heart attacks and strokes. Isoflavones reduce your body's production of cells that lead to plaque build-up in your arteries. Common side effects are nausea, bloating and constipation.
42. St. John’s Wort
It has been used to treat depression and anxiety symptoms. It has multiple drug interactions and thus should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision. Side effects are unusual, but may include fatigue, stomach pain, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth.
43. Zinc
You can found zinc in seafood, poultry, and nuts, dark chocolate and fortified cereal. It plays an important role in cell growth, the immune system, and maintaining your senses of smell and taste. Zinc also helps shorten the duration of the common cold and promotes the healing of wounds. Vegetarian, alcoholics, and the elderly are at risk for having low zinc levels. As your body cannot store zinc so you need to get enough amount form either diet or supplements?
