Introduction:
it is a high calorie coffee drink used instead of breakfast.
It consists of 2 cups (470 ml) of coffee, 2 tablespoons (28 grams) of grass-fed, unsalted butter, and 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) of MCT oil mixed in a blender.
The coffee produced and marketed by Asprey’s company is supposedly free of mycotoxins. However, there’s no evidence that this is the case.
This coffee has become popular among people following paleo diet or low carbs diet.
Including the coffee occasionally may be harmless but it is not okay to include it as a daily routine.
Here are 3 potential downsides of Bulletproof coffee.
1. Low in nutrients
Substituating breakfast with bulletproof coffee will result in lack of main nutrients even this coffee is rich in fat that curbs appetite and provides you with energy but you are still lacking many nutrients of breakfast and you are mainly reducing nutrient loaded by third if you are replacing three meals by Bulletproof coffee.
While grass-fed butter contains some CLA, butyrate, and vitamins A and K2, MCT oil is a refined and processed fat with virtually no essential nutrients.
2. High in saturated fat
Bulletproof coffee is high in saturated fatty acids. Studies about saturated fatty acids and health effects are contraversial while some have been linked consumption of saturated fatty acids to heart disease other have shown no effect.
You can include saturated fatty acids into your healthy diert but in acceptable amount and if you are worry about high cholesterol level and hugh saturated fatty acid intake then you need to limit your intake.
3. May raise your cholesterol levels
According to studies conducted on low carbs diet and ketogenic diet that are usually high in fat, the results have shown that these diet dont raise LDL cholesterol level while they lower total triglycerides and raises HDl.
But according to other studies, some people dont respond in this way and they tend to have high LDL cholesterol so if you are worry about high cholesterol level you need to limit intake of saturated fatty acids including Bulletproof coffee.
Should anyone drink Bulletproof coffee?
Bulletproof coffee can work in people who are on ketogenic diet and dont suffer from high cholesterol level. Moreover, including Bulletproof coffee as a part of healthy diet could help in weight loss while providing your body with energy.
If you find that this morning drink improves your well-being and quality of life, perhaps it’s worth the decreased nutrient load.
Anyone who drink Bulletproof coffee need to always test blood markers related to heart disease and other condition to remain on the safe side. Always consult a healthcare provider.
