Additives or preservatives are used to extend shelf life of food and to enhance texture, color and flavor.
But do you ever think about their health risks?
Nitrates and nitrites are used in processed and cured meats, such as hot dogs, bacon and lunch meats.
"A study published in 2012 found that American women with the highest dietary nitrate intake had a 31 percent greater risk of ovarian cancer than women with the lowest nitrate intake."
"Another study found that people with the highest consumption of nitrites from animal sources were more likely to develop renal cell carcinoma."
BHA is used in cereals, vegetable oils and snack chips. Some studies done in animals have linked the antioxidant BHA to certain forms of cancer and according to government’s National Toxicology Program BHA is “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. But a human study have been done in 2000 concluded that" no association between BHA and stomach cancer."
To decrease the risk of cancer, manufacturing may use chemicals ingredients like vitamin E or use other packaging ways to decrease the use of preservatives. Cancer may be preventable by healthy lifestyle and well balanced yet. Go for more natural food is better.
