Your Energy Drink Is Killing You from the Inside
Unfortunately, energy drinks are bad for your health and they have been linked to death and are known to have similar effect as cocaine. According to a new study published by the British Medical journal, energy drinks could have more dangerous side effects and can lead to liver diseases.
The case study involved a 50-year-old construction worker who was drinking four to five energy drinks a day over the course of three weeks. He ended up developing acute hepatitis and experienced nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. At the beginning, he thought these are the symptoms of flue but once his eyes turn yellow he went to the emergency and the symptoms were related to liver disease. After, he stop consumption of energy drinks the symptoms went.
Grub Street points out this is the second time taking energy drinks excessively has been tied to liver failure. In 2011, an otherwise healthy 22-year-old woman was diagnosed with acute hepatitis as she had admitted she was drinking 10 energy drink cans a day for two weeks.
According to doctors it is the niacin or B3 that is linked to liver damage more than caffeine and other ingredients.
