Eat meat and lose weight: What to know about the keto diet

Ketogenic diet or ketosis is the ability of liver to produce ketones body when your carbohydrate intake is low. Ketones bodies are produces by liver when insulin level is low. Strict carbohydrate intake to 10% of total calories or 20-30 grams daily, moderate protein as 20% and very high fat level 60-80%.

People wanting to try the ketogenic diet should avoid many fruits and high-starch vegetables such as potatoes, corn and squash as they contain too many carbohydrates. Instead, it recommended red bell peppers, kale and cauliflower. Juices, sodas or carbonated drinks and alcohol will disrupt your ketogenesis as well, which greatly limits the kind of food you can eat.

The idea of ketogenic diet is you will be using fat to burning calories and energy but still if you are eating more than diet prescription you will store fat.

Underestimating carbs intake may lead to diet failure as low carbs intake should be maintained too low for success of diet. Foods like rice, potatoes, bread, starchy veggies, juice, most fruit or sweets of any kind will likely push you over the limit. The best choice is to choose low carbs food like green leafy vegetables.

Stress, lack of sleep, overworked and anxiety may lead to failure of diet.

Cutting empty carbs such as soda, cookies, candies and other refined foods, embracing fatty foods such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, olive oil, avocado oil, and eating more leafy greens while avoiding high-starch vegetables, such as kale, spinach and collards, are all a good start. Being away from hidden carbohydrates could also greatly help with whatever lifestyle change you are trying out, or if you simply want to try losing a bit of weight.
