A temporary low-calorie diet may reduce inflammatory bowel disease
A low calorie diet may reduce symptoms of irritable bowel disease according to some experiments done on mice.
According to the experiments mice with IBD who were fed on low-calorie, low protein diet had reduced intestinal inflammation and regenerated gut health.
IBD in humans include both ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease which both cause inflammation.
The causes may be combination of genetic and environmental factors.
This fasting-mimicking diet increased stem cells in the gut, a sign of regeneration, and also reversed inflammation-associated shrinking of the colon.
Also the researcher believes that low calorie diet repopulate Lactobacillus bacteria in the gut which is responsible for improving inflammation symptoms.
Fasting mimicking-diet has a potential effect on reversing inflammation symptoms and improving healthy gut according to humans trial.
