Ketogenic diet is a high fat diet with low carbs intake that cause rapid weight loss by using fats as fuel instead of glucose and it produces ketones body by a process called ketosis. Including moderate amount of protein is also a part of ketogenic diet
Fats:
Fats are essential for the body to create ketosis state or producing ketones body and they are the main key in ketogenic diet.
Ketosis state is needed to shift the body from sugar-burning state into fat burning state and in this way you will lose weight but wait on this diet you are not allowed to consume fatty food like burgers and French fries instead you need to choose healthy fats that are mono-unsaturated fatty acids that are known to lower LDL cholesterol.
Some healthy choices of food you may include: avocados, coconut oil, chia and sunflower seeds, nut butters, sour cream, full-fat yoghurt, olives and coconut oil.
Proteins:
Proteins are important in ketogenic diet as they are building block for muscles. In addition proteins provide your body with essential amino acids and nutrients like B vitamins, iron, zinc, and others which are necessary for supporting the normal body functions like tissue repair, the immune system, boosting the metabolism, the regulation of hormones and even quick weight loss.
In order to sustain keto diet you need to choose right types of protein or combining high protein food with healthy fat. Protein curbs appetite and help you feel full for longer period and then fasten weight loss rate. Avoid protein sources that are high in saturated fatty acids like red meat.
Some protein-rich foods that you can enjoy while on a keto diet are whole eggs, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, dairy products, tofu and even healthy nuts.
