You gut is not just for food it is also for your emotions and your mood. Studies have been shown that a healthy gut promote healthy brain and then good mood, while problems in gut affect your mood and may lead to depression.
According to a study done, they found that certain bacteria and the susbtances they produce are linked to depression, moreover they conclude that little diversity of bacteria in gut may be linked to Crohn's disease.
They suugest that certain substances produced by bacteria interact with nervous system and they were labelled as neuroactive. For example, they found that some bacteria produce DOPAC which is a metabolite of brain neurotransmitter: The dopamine which is linked to better quality of life.
Considering depression, studies have been shown that is linked to inflammation and especially cytokines that are released into the blood as a part of body healing while they are destructive for the cells. Cytokines are cell signaling and hormones like molecules that stimulate cells toward site of inflammation and infection in addition they encourage cell communication in immune responses.
Probiotic lower the engative effect of cytokines, so to start with you need to restore healthy gut by increasing consumption of fermented food, vitamin B and D sources and omega-3.
Having healthy gut is really important for well bing as it affects not only your gut but it affects all your body including your mood.
