Introduction:

Hummus is an eastern food that is highly spreader but is it really healthy? Why it contains a lot of calories?


Hummus is made with tahini and oil which are high in fat. Adding hummus to other ingredient can be helpful in weight loss.



Tahini is made from toasted seeds. It provides both PUFA and MUFA, while good amount of protein and fibre.


The major ingredient of hummus is chickpeas when one-cup serving of chickpeas made from dried beans (with no salt or added fat) provides 295 calories, 16 grams of protein, 49 grams of carbohydrate, 14 grams of fibre, and 5 grams of fat.


Other recipes add olive oil, garlic and water in addition to lemon.

Hummus is high in calories while it is still nutritious as it provides your body with fiber, fat, little sugar and protein.


Depending on hummus products, it can be healthy or unhealthy. While some hummus products provide 50-80 mg of sodium others provide 200 mg of sodium. Checking label carefully is really important.

A two-tablespoon serving of Pita Pal Organic Hummus provides 60 calories, 3 grams of fat, 7 grams of carbohydrate, 3 grams of protein, 2 grams of fiber and 65 milligrams of sodium


A serving of Sabra Classic Hummus provides 70 calories, 5 grams of fat, 4 grams of carbohydrate, 1 gram of fiber, 2 grams of protein and 130 milligrams of sodium


Two tablespoons of Fountaine Sante Traditional Hummus contains 80 calories, 5 grams of fat, 6 grams of carbohydrate, 1 gram of fiber, 1 gram of protein and 125 milligrams of sodium
