We all occasionally have a lapse in memory and we forget the car keys or some things. There are many ways to make your brain sharper.


WHAT CAUSES MEMORY LOSS?

Memory loss is sometimes a norma part of life while it can be due to some health conditions that could be reversible or become worse as we age. So what are the main causes of emory loss?


Aging

Memory loss is a normal part of aging process and there is no need to worry if this memory loss dont disturb your ability to live independetly and to socialize. if you have any concern you may consult your doctor.


Mild cognitive impairment

It involves a noticable decline is one area realted to thinkings skills like memory, the cahnges are greater than aging process but less than dementia. In some cases, mild cognitive impairement may develop into dementia but in other cases it will not.


Dementia

Dementia is usually a gradual worsening of cognitive function to the point where it disrupts a person’s life. Early signs are repeating the same questions, forgetting common words or getting lost in familiar areas. Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common causes of dementia.


Head trauma and brain disease

A head injury after a car accident or brain diseases like infection or tumor may cause mild to severe memory lapses.


Medications and alcohol

Tranquilizers, antidepressants, some blood pressure drugs, and other medications can affect memory, usually by causing sedation or confusion. It may be one drug or a combination that cause memory loss. Alcohol abuse is linked to memory loss and brain damage.


Nutrient deficiency

An overall healthy diet is important for a healthy you. A deficiency in vitamin B12 is linked to memory loss. B12 is important to maintain healthy nerves and blood cells.


Stress, anxiety and depression

Stress, anxiety and depression may cause memory problems. Anything that makes it harder to concentrate and lock in new information and skills can lead to memory problems.


Hypothyroidism

An underactive thyroid can cause forgetfulness and other cognitive issues. Hypothyroidism also can lead to poor sleep and depression, further impairing your memory.


Sleep loss

Not getting enough sleep lead to memory problems. Too little restful sleep can also lead to mood changes and anxiety, which in turn contribute to problems with memory.

Exercise regularly

Regular exercise improves memory and keeps brain sharper as it imrpoves blood circulation and oxygen delivery into the brain. One of the best exercises in dance as it improves mood.

Mnetal workout are important to sharp your brain. While there are some more targeted brain-training programs, such as Lumosity and BrainHQ, any kind of game or puzzle can help. Try crossword puzzles, sudoku, card games or board games.


Prioritize healthy foods

A healthy diet is important for your overall health including your brain. Make sure to choose variety of fruits and vegetables, replacing inflammation inducing refined carbs with complex carbs, choose lean protein sources and dont forget to consume enough omega-3 along with nuts and seeds.


Socialize

Socializing keeps you happy and relieves stress and anxiety linked to memory loss. You can socialie at gym groups or dance groups.


Get enough quality sleep

Sleep plays an important role in helping you consolidate your memories, so you can recall them down the road. Sleep also defends your body against many other health problems, so make it a priority in your life.


Practice mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness can do wonders for your mental state. In addition practicing mindfulness has others benefits including lowering stress and improving sleep. So give it a shot for a sharper memory and an overall healthier life.
