Type 2 diabetes: One food you should always limit on your plate to control blood sugar
Type 2 diabetes is a common chronic disease that affect mainly adult population. As hypertension, if it is left untreated it lead to serious complications affecting eyes, foot, nerves and kidneys. Poor quality diet, lack of exercise, family history and age are linked with diabetes type 2.
Controlling carbs intake is really important to control blood sugar and adding some complex carbs matters to ensure needed energy.
White rice is a good source of carbs but has been linked to high blood sugar. So if you have pre-diabetes or you are diabetic patients you should take care of extra amount of rice. The effect of white riche is due to it is high glycaemic index 70 which causes spike in blood sugar.
Health experts at Health line recommend eating the following three types of rice:
BasmatiBrown riceWild rice
These rice choices like brown rice, wild rice, and long-grain white rice includes more fibre, nutrients and vitamins than short-grain white rice.
Basmati, brown and wild rice have GI scores in the moderate range. They have a GI of 56 to 69. These are generally okay to eat in moderation. Cooking times can alter GI score, so be careful not to overcook your rice.
Other food you should limit eating bread, bagels another refined-flour foods as they increase blood sugar.
