It is normally to have slower metabolic rate as you get older. But the surprise come from some bad habits that lower your metabolism; if you fight these bad habits will you see improved metabolism.
Skipping breakfast:
Breakfast is very important as starting plate. Your metabolism will be low during sleep, so waking it up with more calories let your body increase metabolism to burn more calories.
That doesn’t mean that anything could be a breakfast, so ensure to eat fibre, protein and whole grains food as breakfast.
Sedentary lifestyle:
Sitting on the chair behind your office or driving in your car means you have sedentary life style and your body switch to conservation-method while it cannot properly regulates blood sugar, blood pressure and fat burning.
Strength training is a key component of metabolism because it is directly linked to muscle mass, as more active muscles means more calories burn and higher metabolic rate
Low protein intake:
Protein is essential for building muscles, healthy weight and promotes satiety. Eating too little means less muscles and the body will not burn calories. As protein needs more energy for digestion, it burn more calories than other food groups.
Disturbed sleep pattern:
Not getting enough sleep or have disturbed sleep may lead to lower metabolic rate. Ensure that you are taking enough sleep.
Not drinking enough water:
Studies have been shown that drinking water about 2 cups increase metabolic rate by 30% that last for hours. Water is important for hydration as well for metabolism.
Uncontrolled stress:
Stress stimulates your body to secrete cortisol that increase appetite toward crave comfort food and lower sleep quality as well decrease desire to exercise. Managing stress is really important to control metabolism. Instead of eating go for a walk or red a journal to lower side effects of stress in your metabolism and body.
