Diabetes side effects and dietary management:

Side effects on health:


  • CVD: Cardiovascular disease

  • Nephropathy

  • Retinopathy

  • Hypertension

  • Dislipidemia

  • Neuropathy: gastroparesis: bloating, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea

  • Antiemetic to relieve GI disturbances


MNT: Medical Nutrition Therapy:

  • CHO counting: each exchange contains 15 grams of CHO

  • Avoid juices and sodas

  • Avoid honey and simple sugar

  • Choose whole grains food that are high in fibers instead of refined sugar( replace white bread,pasta and rice with grains and whole grains bread)

  • Increase Intake of water

  • Additional 15 grams of CHO for 30-60 minutes of exercise

  • NO more than two consecutive days without exercise
