Definition:
Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood.
Two types of diabetes:
Type 1 which resulted from deficiency of insulin and its mostly common in children
Type 2 which resulted from insulin resistance, its common in adults.
Symptoms:
Excessive urination, thirst, hyperglycemia and weight loss ( last one for type 1)
Indicators
A1C%> 6.5
FBG>126 mg/dl
2 hour PG> 200 mg/dl
