Type 2 diabetes can be controlled by taking measures to lower the amount of sugar in the blood. Dietary supplements are becoming increasingly popular among people looking to lose weight or fill up on vitamins and minerals, but are there supplements you can take to lower blood sugar and control diabetes symptoms?

Diabetes is a chronic disease where the blood sugar is too high and it can be dangerous as it lead to complications affecting different organs like: eyes, nerves, kidneys and feet. So to prevent diabetes complications your blood sugar should be kept under control when strict dietary changes and exercise program will be applied. Supplement use has become popular for weight loss and adding extra vitamins and minerals. But what about supplement for lowering blood sugar or controlling diabetes symptoms?

People with certain conditions may take supplements to relieve symptoms or even take additional nutrients that their bodies lack. Key nutrients are founded in supplements like amino acids, fiber, digestive enzymes and omega-3. In addition, they are available in various forms, including tablets, capsules, powders and liquids.

No scientific evidence to support need of supplements for diabetic patients unless they have deficiencies of some key nutrients or requires them to compensate.

Several studies have assessed the benefits of dietary supplements for diabetes management, according to the diabetes expert, but none have conferred “strong benefits”.

Supplements should be used in addition to dietary regimen as food is the natural source of key nutrient and there is no alternative. Before taking supplements it is best to consult your doctor to avoid any side effects.

Considering diabetes management, the best way is healthy balanced diet with exercise to control blood sugar. Dietary regimen involves deep control of calories, sugar, saturated fats and high GI food and replace them with natural fruits and vegetables in addition to lean protein sources.
