Comfort Can Be Healthy
When it turns a little chilly outside or you’re a bit down in the dumps, there’s nothing like good comfort food to make you feel better. The problem is, comfort foods often aren’t the best thing for you to eat. Here are a few smart choices to keep you healthy and get you comfy when you need it the most.
Vegetable Lasagne
Lasagne can be tricky food so as it contains a lot of fatty ingredients. So choose meatless, vegetables type with fat free or low fat cheese. Choose whole grains lasagne.
Spaghetti Squash
You can use spaghetti squash with olive oil and salt to make it stomach happy and filling dish as ingredients and cooking method matters.
Baked potato with chili
Salt, butter and bacon make potatoes unhealthy choice so instead choose turkey, heart-healthy veggies, lots of beans that are high in protein and fibre and you can make a baked potato into a full-blown, much-healthier meal.
Chicken or Black Bean Enchiladas
To make healthy choose fat free cheese, lean chicken and whole grains tortillas.
Popcorn
Popcorn is rich in fibre but adding butter, salt and oil make it worse choice.. Instead try ari popcorn for healthier meal.
Pretzels with Mustard or Hummus
Choose whole grains low salt pretzels and top it with hummus or mustard instead of unhealthy ingredients.
Chips and Salsa
If you love tortilla chips or other type you can choose baked with veggies sauce.
Low-Fat Ice Cream (or Sherbet)
Check the label because low fat and caloric choices can be hidden with additives.
Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies
Oatmeal raisin with yogurt can be healthy choice as they are made from whole grain flour and don’t forget to choose non-fat plain yogurt.
Ginger Snaps
These cookies are good for nausea and morning sickness; in addition they lower inflammation. Try them with whole grains and cinnamon to improve antioxidant properties.
