Buy it organic! Your health worth it

Overview

When it comes to grocery stores you may have two choices to buy products even conventional or organic. Organic is USDA certification that assure products are grown without chemicals or genetically modified organisms. Organic farmers may mean safer, and more nutritious produce, dairy and meat. As organic products cost more than conventional, there are so e products that worth their price and you need to buy them organic. Let us know which products deserve to be bought organic.


1. Wine

Wine is made from grapes which has highest level of pesticide residue and you will end up having those pesticide into your glass of wine, instead you can buy organic wine.


2. Coffee

Coffee may be #1 as far as the amount and number of pesticides used to grow it. While some studies have found that the coffee roasting process degrades the pesticide residues by 85%, however If you are concerned about what the impact will be of consuming one to three cups of coffee every day for your entire life, and how ingesting artificial pesticides, fungicides and herbicides are affecting your body, brain and overall health, you may want to choose organic coffee.


Moreover, when it comes to conventional coffee and pesticide used, they also have long-term effects on the environment and farmers.


3. Apples

Apple a day keeps your doctor away, they are good source of fiber that enhance digestive system but unfortunately apples have higher residue level of pesticides. You can solve this by purchasing them organic, it applies for applesauce and apple juice too!


4. Dairy

Choose organic dairies if you are on budget and yogurt specially. Organic dairies mean that cows have not received any antibiotics or growth hormone and they only consume 100% organic feed. You can look for grass-fed milk which means the diet of the dairy cow enjoyed a grain-free diet comprised mostly of grass and forage.


5. Blueberries

Choose organic berries and avoid conventional as they have high level of pesticides.


6. Celery

Celery is a good source of vitamin C, fiber and some B vitamins. If you cannot find organic celery you can choose conventional asparagus as they have low amount of nasty chemicals.


7. Tomatoes

Tomatoes have higher level of pesticide, give your tomatoes a gentle scrub as you eat the skin.


8. Corn

You can choose sweet corn conventional as it is rare to have genetic modification. Considering popcorn, corn and starches in processed food is important to avoid them as they are GMOs and choose instead organic products.


9. Cucumbers

Choose organic cucumbers but if you cannot buy it peel off the skin as it holds most of residue.


10. Grapes

Grapes are rich in vitamins and minerals moreover, they offer many health benefits. Unfortunately, they hold a lot of residue so switch to organic version and wash them very well.


11. Hot Peppers

Peppers contain a chemical called capsaicin, which can help relieve nasal congestion and even fight against cancer. Unfortunately, conventional peppers also can contain 75 pesticide residues, including known carcinogens and neurotoxins. If you cannot buy organic hot peppers switch to onions as they are clean vegetables and give your food extra flavour!


12. Leafy Greens: Lettuce, Green Collards and Kale

Leafy greens are worth the organic investment because the leaves offer more surface area for pesticides to stick and they can be tough to rinse off. Also, you can’t really “peel” kale or lettuce so you’re taking it all in. Be diligent when rinsing and/or soaking green.


13. Meat

Conventional meat contains hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides. The pesticides found in cows, chicken, turkey and other animals comes from their feed which is grown using synthetic fertilizers and herbicides. So organic meat worth extra money!


14. Nectarines

Nectarines offer a lot of vitamin and minerals including lutein which support both eyes and skin. Buy organic nectarines.


15. Peaches

Peaches are excellent source of fiber and antioxidant but conventional version is packed with pesticides, instead go organic and when your budget cannot afford them you can switch to cantaloupe as it has low nasty residue.


16. Potatoes

Choose organic potatoes. Potatoes are rich in fiber and vitamins moreover they provide your body with energy. Conventional potatoes have higher level of pesticides.


17. Snap Peas

Imported snap peas appeared to have a bigger problem with pesticides compared to domestic. To keep it safe go organic or domestic.


18. Soy

If you eat tofu, edamame, tempeh, etc., be aware as 94% of soybeans are genetically modified. You must be aware of package labelling as vast majority of this soybean crop is processed into oil and then incorporated into many packaged foods that you see in grocery stores today.


19. Spinach

They are low in calories, high in vitamin K and Abut unfortunately this contains carcinogens, neurotoxins and developmental or reproductive toxins. So go organic as it worth it!


20. Strawberries

Strawberries have been linked to increased heart health and lower levels of bad cholesterol. Conventional strawberries can contain many types of pesticide residue including Captan, a probable human carcinogen that causes rats to develop tumours. So go organic instead!


21. Sweet bell peppers

Red, green, yellow and orange bell peppers not only add colour to your plate, but also potent nutritional benefits. One cup of pepper contains almost 100 percent of the daily requirements for Vitamin A and 300 percent of the daily requirements for vitamin C. Unfortunately, they are packed with pesticides so choose organic instead.
