Bowel cancer warning: These five lifestyle habits may increase the risk of bowel cancer


Bowel cancer is number one killer in the U.K sometimes it is caused by factors out of control for example genetics but it can also be due to many lifestyle factors that increase the risk so changing them is a really key point to prevent bowel cancer.


Eating too much red/processed meat

Several studies were shown the link between red meat consumption and bowel cancer so it is recommended to decrease intake to less than two times per week.


Being overweight

Being overweight or obese increase the risk not only of bowel cancer but other types too. So trying to lose extra pounds to prevent risk of chronic diseases and improve overall health.


Not exercising enough

Having sedentary lifestyle is a major contributors to many disease including bowel cancer, including 30 minutes of daily physical activity can improves well-being. Stay active and use stairs instead of elevator, wash your car or have a brisk walking.


Smoking

Number of cigarette smoking along with the age that person start smoking really affect bowel health and lead to bowel cancer as smokers are more susceptible to bowel polyps (small growths on the bowel) than non-smokers, and these are considered to be the ‘gateway’ to cancer developing in the colon.


Drinking too much alcohol

Alcohol consumption and heavy drinking are linked to bowel cancer so moderation is the key as 2 times per week.

Making some lifestyle changes would not guarantee 100% risk free of bowel cancer or any other disease but at least it improves overall health and well-being.
