Garlic contains fructan that are not digested by the body otherwise they are fermented by gut bacteria that produce by-products that trapped within the stomach and then they lead to bloating.

Bloating is sometimes caused by some types of food or it can be a symptom of certain medical condition.

FODMAP like fructan provide nutrients for gut bacteria and usually don’t cause any symptom but in people who are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome another gas is formed and cause symptoms like bloating, flatulence, cramping and diarrhoea.

Garlic can induce intolerance symptoms like belching and trapped wind so to lower the chance of getting bloated you need to cook garlic or replace it with another spicy.

Stomach bloating may be caused by constipation, trapped wind, irritable bowel syndrome, or by swallowing too much air.

You could swallow air by drinking through a straw, or by talking with your mouth full of food.

Ask to your doctor if the symptoms don’t go away.
