Visceral fat is a type of adipose tissue stored around the vital organs in the abdominal area. It is referred as the belly fat. It has been linked with high risks of chronic diseases.
Another type of fat is within the abdominal area which is subcutaneous fat and it is located underneath the skin plus it is needed for normal body functioning.
Patients with visceral obesity have higher risk of:
Insulin resistance
Glucose intolerance
High cholesterol level
High blood pressure
Heart disease
Consult your doctor to measure your visceral fat and make appropriate recommendations
In order to measure visceral fat you need a flexible tape to be wrapped in the widest part of your stomach. After placing the tape you need to take a breath, take the measure and then to exhale.
If a man and a woman have waist circumference of 40 and 35 inches respectively then they have visceral obesity.
To lose belly fat you need to follow appropriate weight loss diet that include healthy food choices and reduce intake of sodas, sugary drinks and grassy food along with physical exercise.
