Berberis vulgaris, commonly known as barberry, is a shrub that grows tart, red berries.


Its berries have been used in traditional medicine for centuries to treat digestive issues, infections, and skin conditions.


First point, barberries are nutritious and delicious. They are packed with carbs, fiber and vitamins and minerals. In addition, they are excellent source of vitamin C which works as a powerful antioxidant. Finally, they contain zinc, manganese and copper.

Secondly, barberries contain high concentration of berberine which is a powerful antioxidant.

Thirdly, according to some studies, supplemental berberine and barberry extract can lower your blood sugar levels and may help treat diabetes.

Fourthly, berberine slow transit time thus consumption of barberries may treat diarrhea. More studies are needed.

Fifth point, barberries have been shown to improve your risk factors for metabolic syndrome and decrease oxidative stress associated with it.
